The Romance of Cedar
When selecting the perfect hot tub for the Black River Retreat, the choice of designs and styles were seemingly endless. Inundated with a vast array of acrylic tubs featuring the options of loungers, hundreds of jets, fibre optic lighting, and cascading waterfalls, the decision to opt for an all natural cedar hot tub was remarkably easy.
Tucked away in a private woodland oasis, we wanted to preserve the “feeling” of our breathtaking natural environment with a hot tub that would blend harmoniously with nature, and embody an aura of relaxation and love.
The beautiful warmth of natural cedar, and the charm of simplicity proved to be an irresistible combination, and after very little consideration we chose our cedar hot tub from Northern Lights Cedar Hot Tubs, manufactured in Western Canada.
If you have ever had the pleasure to experience an authentic cedar hot tub, you will understand the feeling of romance that is created through the construction of solid wood and simplicity. There is a comfort in the seating position in a cedar tub that cannot be surpassed in an acrylic tub. Rather than moulded seats and loungers, you are sitting in an upright position, (think of benches in a sauna), which allows your body to mold into the tub and relax in the deep water, rather than being constrained in a sculpted seat that may not conform to a comfortable seating position for you.
You will also notice in a cedar hot tub that the number of jets is greatly reduced from what you would be accustomed to in an acrylic tub. There are many custom options available for you to choose from when selecting jets in a cedar tub, but the most common number of included jets is just four. It sounds counterintuitive when most tubs boast a significantly higher number of jets, but from the moment you sit in your cedar tub, you will realize that having a smaller number of jets provides a greater atmosphere of calmness and romance than a higher number of jets. Four jets provides you plenty of bubbles, and water movement, but you will find that with jets focussing on moving the water rather than targeting areas of your body, the atmosphere and “feeling” of your experience is much more calming and relaxing.

Surrounded by natural rock outcroppings throughout the property, we selected a site for your cedar hot tub that overlooks the gently flowing Black River, and is situated in a copse of pine trees and exposed rock, just steps from the door to your suite.
There is something very special about the natural combination of rocks, water, and trees that provides a calming and therapeutic environment that seems to soothe your soul and provide a sense of peace.
