As a completely private couples resort that caters to one couple at a time, the Black River Retreat falls between description categories and therefore although we offer a five star experience to our guests, we are not rated as a 5 star resort hotel, because of the criteria that involves a five star hotel rating.
When completing a listing on any of the major search engines, there are many criteria in the hotel star classification rating system which are not applicable to us as we are a private destination for just one couple at a time with a maximum stay of two nights.
When designing a luxurious couples resort that focusses on providing the utmost in privacy and romance, we had to consciously make the decision to follow our unique vision with the understanding that we would unfortunately not be able to call ourselves the Black River Retreat - Five Star Couples Resort, as there are certain criteria that are only applicable to resorts with dozens of rooms, or services that would disrupt the harmonious flow of our natural environment.
Located in a woodland oasis on the gently flowing Black River, we endeavoured to create a natural getaway where you can escape and enjoy the beauty of nature, excluding many of the wellness services that would improve our couples resort star rating. We encourage you to experience the natural river instead of a pool, and promote natural exercise in nature as opposed to a fitness room with treadmill and weight machines. Catering to just one couple we also do not have a spa with a staff offering massages, and spa services which also prevents attaining a five star rating.
Providing an intimate experience for you to enjoy complete privacy with the one you love, we also do not offer some af the attributes that help with the star rating such as vending machines, nightclub, convenience store, airport shuttle, business meeting rooms, and shopping boutique. We felt these inclusions would not enhance the experience of a one or two night private getaway, but attributes that would lead to a higher hotel rating on search engines.l
In the attempt to clearly define the Black River Retreat as a luxurious private couples resort where you can escape for a romantic getaway and enjoy an opulent five star reviewed couples resort, we are not able to boast a five star rating based on hotel rating criteria, but provide you with the utmost in romantic privacy, fine dining, and personal service with an attention to detail second to none.
